Victoria’s Secret Loses Its Spark: A Disappointing 2024 Fashion Show

I tuned in to watch the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, expecting a night of glamour and high-fashion. Unfortunately, the event left me underwhelmed and disappointed.

The show kicked off with Tyra Banks’ intro, paying homage to America’s Next Top Model, but the accompanying pink motorcycle graphics felt cheap and tacky. This set the tone for the rest of the show.

Gigi Hadid opened the show, but her look was surprisingly bland. Her wings looked cheaply made, and the noticeable mechanism that opened them took away from the illusion. It was distracting to see her visibly trigger the release, making the overall effect feel more gimmicky than glamorous. The “Shop the Show” feature, powered by Amazon, felt like a blatant marketing ploy, cheapening the brand’s image. The music selection, featuring recent trending songs, was clearly an attempt to appeal to a younger audience, but came across as trying too hard.

Some highlights included Adrianna Lima’s impressive walk, although her ponytail didn’t quite live up to the drama of a blowout. Kate Moss also made a stunning appearance, proving that age is just a number.

Basically, the OG angles carried the show. The show was filled with questionable design choices, such as oversized hoops and slicked-back hair, and an overabundance of long dresses. Why were there leggings and hoodies on the runway? Did the designers forget the point of the fashion show? Many of the wings looked flimsy and precarious, as if they might fall off at any moment. The show felt like amateur hours as models struggled to walk and lacked confidence. The constant cuts to backstage and spoilers of upcoming looks disrupted the magic.

The only true highlight of the evening was Cher’s show-stopping appearance. Even Tyra Banks’ superhero-themed segment felt forced and awkward. As the show came to a close, the models themselves seemed underwhelmed.

Overall, the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show felt like a watered-down, lackluster imitation of its former self.
